HOME BAKING

RULES: ALL FOOD WILL BE CUT AND SOLD AT AUCTION. We do not accept exhibits that require refrigeration. All food must be cooled and placed in a re-sealable plastic bag. (Large cakes are exempted from this rule.) All food must be on a plate that can go to auction. All entries must include a complete recipe. (Please use a 3”x5” index card.) No box mixes (except specific category.) All winning recipes become the property of the Hardwick Community Fair. All food must be made by exhibitor. Please note required amounts for some items. Ribbons Only.

K.   EAT YOUR VEGETABLES!:  Use any of the veggies from your garden and create a sweet treat!
L.   I’M A CHOCOHOLIC! Your favorite recipe using lots of chocolate!

O. HARDWICK FAIR CHALLENGE RECIPE:  This year's challenge will be to see who can create the best Date Nut Bread. See recipe below, or click here for a printable version. This recipe may not be altered in any way. Interested participants call: Micky DiMartino, (413) 477-6226.

Date Nut Bread Challenge Recipe
¾ cup chopped walnuts
1 cup cut up dates
3Tbls. butter or margarine
1½ tsp. baking soda
(place in bowl and mix lightly)

Add ¾ cup boiling water to the mixture above and let stand for 20 minutes.

Beat 2 eggs with a fork
Add 1 tsp vanilla
Next add:
     1 cup sugar
     1½ cups sifted flour
Beat well with a fork.

Combine date and flour mixture until just blended. Pour into greased and floured loaf pan.

Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour and 5 minutes or until done.
